Footpath work in West Lancshire is mostly carried out by our footpath secretary, Ron. The work is varied and time consuming and Ron welcomes help from members of the group and also from members of the public informing us of any problem they encounter. Some of the work we do is listed below:

  • Securing the addition to the definitive map of public paths not previously recorded
  • Looking at any proposals for footpath diversion and opposing those which are not in the public interest
  • Opposing planning applications which would have a detrimental effect on the footpaths or countryside
  • Informing and making complaints to the Local Authority about paths which are obstructed or which are unlawfully ploughed or cropped
  • Informing and making complaints to the Local Authority about unsafe or missing stiles or any other problems which prevent anyone walking along a public right of way

If you encounter a problem when walking a footpath in West Lancashire you can report it

  • to our footpath secretary Ron Cheetham by telephone on: 01704 892453
  • online to Lancashire County Council
  • by writing to The Environment Directorate, Lancashire County Council, Guild House, Preston,
    Lancashire, PR1 8RD, tel. 01772 534468

Or you can report it to any of our group contacts below:

Geoff Wright, Group Secretary tel: 01772 812034; e-mail wgwright@tesco.net
Alan Madeley, Countryside Officer tel: 01695 724448: e-mail alan@madeley.fsworld.co.uk

New style   parbold walk
A newly erected stile -this was put up after a complaint to Lancashire County Council.   A footpath detour through the mud on a winter afternoon walk - is it an improvement?
